Air India Slapped with Rs.1.1 Crore Fine by DGCA for Safety Violations: India's aviation watchdog, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has levied a fine of Rs.1.1 crore on Air India for safety violations detected on specific flights. The penalty stems from a safety report filed by an Air India employee, citing breaches on certain long-range critical routes.

Following the receipt of the safety report, the DGCA launched a thorough investigation into the alleged violations. The preliminary findings revealed non-compliance by the Tata Group-backed Air India. Consequently, the regulator issued a show cause notice to the accountable manager of the airline.

The DGCA examined the airline's response to the show cause notice, evaluating its adherence to statutory provisions and performance limits outlined by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM). As the operations of the leased aircraft were found to deviate from regulatory norms and the manufacturer's recommended performance limits, the DGCA initiated enforcement action, imposing a Rs.1.10 crore penalty on Air India.

This penalty comes in the wake of the DGCA's recent actions against Air India. Last week, the regulator fined the airline Rs.30 lakh for pilot rostering lapses in low visibility conditions. The DGCA's analysis of December 2023 flight data revealed that Air India failed to roster CAT II/III and low visibility take-off qualified pilots for certain flights.

In November, Air India faced a Rs.10 lakh fine for non-compliance with passenger facility rules. DGCA inspections at Delhi, Kochi, and Bengaluru airports revealed that the airline was not meeting the requirements outlined in the Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR).

These penalties underscore the DGCA's commitment to ensuring safety and compliance within the aviation sector, holding airlines accountable for deviations from established regulations.
