Chennai: In a strategic maneuver aimed at reining in the influence of BJP's Tamil Nadu unit President, K Annamalai, and fostering alliances with like-minded political entities in the state in preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Union Finance Minister and seasoned BJP stalwart Nirmala Sitharaman, who hails from Tamil Nadu, is reportedly on the verge of being appointed as the saffron party's state in-charge.
This development comes in the wake of the AIADMK's decision to sever ties with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), signaling a significant shift in Tamil Nadu's political landscape.
It's noteworthy that Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai recently met with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Delhi, engaging in a comprehensive discourse encompassing various facets of the state's political dynamics and progress. Annamalai also conferred with the party's top brass, including Amit Shah and the national president of the BJP, JP Nadda, elucidating the ongoing contest with the dominant Dravidian force in Tamil Nadu, as reported.
The BJP central leadership has reportedly convened discussions regarding the AIADMK alliance, and an official party stance is anticipated imminently.
In light of Annamalai's visit, the scheduled consultative meeting for the party's state district secretaries and office bearers unit in Chennai, planned for Tuesday, has been postponed. Similarly, the initiation of the third phase of Annamalai's 'En Mann En Makkal' (My Land, My People) tour has been rescheduled from October 4 to October 6, taking into account his recent sojourn in Delhi.
