MADURAI: The inaugural state convention of the AIADMK under the leadership of Edappadi Palaniswami, who recently assumed the mantle of the party's general secretary, is poised to convene in Madurai on the 20th of August. Anticipated to draw a gathering of over 2 million dedicated AIADMK members, the event marks a significant juncture for the party.

The inaugural state convention of the AIADMK subsequent to Edappadi Palaniswami's induction as the general secretary is slated to transpire in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, on the 20th of August, report reads.

In a statement, AIADMK luminary R Kamaraj said, "This convention holds the potential to reshape the trajectory of the AIADMK. It is designed to emulate the principles and governance synonymous with the late former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's era. With a projected attendance exceeding 2 million AIADMK stalwarts, the assembly is poised to resonate. Edappadi K. Palaniswami will also determine the inclusion of allied parties in this assembly."

Currently aligned with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu, AIADMK's decision to orchestrate such a convention germinated during the party's executive conclave in April.

In a resolution underscoring this initiative, party executives underscored the historical significance of such assemblies, harking back to the eras of past luminaries MGR and J Jayalalithaa.

Edappadi Palaniswami ascended to the position of AIADMK's General Secretary following a judicial green light, succeeding J Jayalalithaa. The transition of the General Secretary's role to EPS followed a protracted leadership contention involving former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam. Subsequently, OPS, along with his familial and supporter entourage, was expelled from the AIADMK fold.
