Uttar Pradesh-Ballia: During a protest against the Centre's Agnipath recruitment plan, a mob vandalised a train at the Ballia railway station in Uttar Pradesh on Friday morning.
To disperse the mob, police officers have been deployed at the station. "Since the morning, forces have been posted at the station. A few hooligans arrived, but were stopped from causing too much damage; they attempted stone-pelting. There is action being taken, "Saumya Agarwal, the DM of Ballia, said to reporters.
Protests have taken place across Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana in response to the new military recruitment policy.
Many Army recruits are dissatisfied with the new recruitment scheme's changes, particularly the length of service, the lack of pension benefits for those released early, and the 17.5 to 21-year age restriction, which has rendered many of them ineligible.
Youths protested by lying down on railway tracks and blocking roadways in numerous districts throughout Bihar, demanding that the scheme be scrapped.
Huge crowds gathered in Bihar's Chhapra, Jehanabad, Munger, and Nawada regions, calling for the Agnipath project to be scrapped. At Bhabua Road Railway Station, a group of army hopefuls staged a protest and barricaded the tracks before torching a train.
