Bhopal: Excavation near the Sawan Bhado Pillar in Orchha, a popular tourist destination in Madhya Pradesh, has led to a remarkable discovery. Dating back approximately 500 years, a chamber with sophisticated features was unearthed, drawing the attention of locals and tourists alike. Overseen by the tourism department as part of the Ram Raja Lok project, this find has generated significant interest due to its historical significance.

Initiated by the Madhya Pradesh government, the Ram Raja Lok project aims to enhance tourism in Orchha. During excavation work near the Sawan Bhado Pillar, a structure resembling those found in Iran, designed to combat excessive heat, was uncovered. Piyush Vajpayee, Deputy Engineer of the Tourism Department, noted the advanced air cooling system present in the chamber, indicating the technological prowess of ancient Orchha.

Historian Dr. KP Tripathi highlighted the historical context, pointing out the close ties between Orchha's ruler, Veer Singh Ji Dev, and the Mughals, evidenced by structures like the Jahangir Mahal. He suggested that the air cooling technology may have originated from Iran, given the Mughals' Persian roots. The legend associated with the Sawan Bhado Pillar adds to its cultural significance, further enhancing the importance of the discovery.

The chamber, equipped with a fountain facility for bathing, remains remarkably cool even in the sweltering heat of May. The temperature inside the chamber is significantly lower than outside, showcasing the effectiveness of the air cooling system. Vajpayee highlighted the engineering marvel of the system, attributing its success to a network of strategically placed fountains.

The discovery of this advanced cooling system is unique to Orchha, reflecting the region's architectural ingenuity. The ongoing development of the Ram Raja Lok project promises to reveal more such structures, shedding light on Orchha's rich historical and cultural heritage.
