Mumbai: In Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, approximately 80 students from a district council school were hospitalized on Saturday morning after consuming biscuits provided through a nutritional meal program, officials reported.
The students began experiencing nausea and vomiting around 8:30 a.m. at the school in Keket Jalgaon village. Upon learning of the incident, local authorities, including the village head, promptly arrived at the school and arranged transportation to a nearby hospital.
The affected students were taken to a rural hospital where their condition was reported as stable. Dr. Babasaheb Ghughe, a medical officer at the hospital, stated, "Approximately 257 students reported symptoms of food poisoning after eating the biscuits. Of these, 153 were brought to the hospital, and some were treated and released."
Seven students with more severe symptoms were transferred to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Civil Hospital for further care. The school, which has a total of 296 students, is currently under investigation to determine the cause of the food poisoning.
