4 Dead, 10 Injured in Uttarakhand as Debris Falls on Gangotri NH near Gangnani

Uttarkashi-Uttarakhand: 4 persons reportedly died and 10 people got injured due to falling debris on Gangotri National Highway in Uttarakhand near Gangnani, said the police on Tuesday.

In response, the police stated, "Four fatalities have occurred due to the falling debris. The ten injured passengers have been admitted to CSC Bhatwadi for immediate medical attention." The police also mentioned the presence of SDM Bhatwadi and the disaster management team at the site.

Efforts are currently underway to conduct a rescue operation, as confirmed by the authorities. Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, emphasized the state administration's heightened state of alertness following the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) heavy rainfall warning for the region.

CM Dhami addressed the precautionary measures taken in the state, stating, "Every monsoon season, we face natural calamities in this region. Excessive precipitation leads to landslides, and the rivers' water levels rise. We remain in a state of high alertness, with district administration officials and our disaster management personnel diligently carrying out their responsibilities. They have been instructed to stay prepared for any situation. Our other organizations, including NDRF, Army, and PWD department, are fully prepared to face any eventuality, and we maintain continuous communication with the public to extend assistance."

Amidst the persistent heavy rains across the state, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami conducted an unannounced inspection at the Secretariat's Disaster Control Room in Dehradun to assess the current situation. Notably, the Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for most districts in Uttarakhand for today and tomorrow.
