Black fungus wreaks havoc in Indore, 32 patients died in just 20 days

Indore: The menace of black fungus (muker mycosis) is on the rise in Madhya Pradesh. More cases of black fungus are being reported in Indore district. In the last 20 days, 32 patients of the disease have died at The Government Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital (MYH). A senior MYH official has informed in this regard.

Let us tell you that MYH is the busiest hospital in the state to treat black fungus where patients from Indore as well as other districts are admitted. "The first black fungus patient was admitted to our hospital on May 13 and a total of 439 patients have been admitted so far," said Pramendra Thakur, Superintendent, MYH. Out of these, 84 people were discharged after treatment while 32 patients have lost their lives.

Superintendent Thakur said the current mortality rate of black fungus patients in MYH is 7.29 per cent. However, the rate is much lower than other hospitals in the State. "We have operated on more than 200 people in the last 20 days to save the lives of black fungus patients," the superintendent MYH said. At present, 323 black fungus patients are admitted to MYH.
