Authorities in Meghalaya suspended two police officers who were in the escort vehicle of Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui's convoy after it collided with a motorcycle on Thursday. A pillion rider was critically hurt in the collision, and the bike rider died on the scene.
According to sources, East Garo Hills Superintendent of Police Bruno A Sangma has suspended sub-inspector of the Armed Branch Kromith Marak and driving constable Dimsrang N Sangma of the district executive force till further notice.
According to police, the incident occurred near Khera in the East Garo Hills area as the Home Minister was travelling from Rongjeng to Williamnagar. The Home Minister was part of a convoy travelling from Shillong along the Nongstoin-Williamnagar-Tura route to meet with Superintendents of Police from the Garo Hills for a review conference.
At the tail of the Home Minister's motorcade, a police Gypsy collided with a cyclist approaching from the opposite direction. A case has also been opened for further investigation, according to the police.
