Amravati: Andhra Pradesh Assembly approves Andhra Pradesh Motor Vehicle Taxation Amendment Bill, 2021 (AP Motor Vehicles Taxation (Amendment) Bill 2021) in the matter of raising tax on motor vehicles to generate more revenue. Yes, now that the new law comes into force, the State Government is expected to get an additional revenue of Rs. 409.58 crore annually. The new law is said to have increased the green tax on old motor vehicles manifold. Let me tell all of you that the rate of green tax on vehicles in Andhra Pradesh was earlier revised in 2006. Karnataka has the highest tax on vehicles in southern states but Andhra Pradesh has come second after the new law was enacted.
According to the information received recently, Transport Minister Perni Venkatramaiah while keeping this bill for the approval of the assembly said that these changes have been made to rationalize the tax rates applicable on vehicles. Let us tell you that according to the new tax rates, green tax of Rs 2,000 will have to be paid on motorcycles that are more than 15 years old, while this amount will increase to Rs 5,000 if they are more than 20 years old. In the case of other vehicle categories, a green tax of Rs 5,000 will be levied on 15-year-old vehicles and Rs. 10,000 on 20-year-old vehicles. According to the information received, the government is planning to give tax exemption on discarding old vehicles and buying new vehicles. Yes and this has been said by the Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari himself.
Now it is believed that the government can give 25 per cent rebate in road tax if the old vehicles are discarded and on the basis of its certificate, the new vehicle is taken. Due to this there will be many benefits which will be given under the junk policy of the government. At the same time, it is also being said that the government will open scrap centers in every area of ​​the country to get the vehicles scrapped. Nitin Gadkari says, the government plans to open 3-4 scrap in every district of the country and the government is tying up with private companies for this.
