Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday that resolving the ongoing conflict with Russia will ultimately require dialogue, but emphasized that Ukraine must be in a strong position to negotiate effectively. Zelenskyy revealed that he plans to present his strategy to U.S. President Joe Biden and his potential successors.

At a press conference in Kyiv, Zelenskyy explained that Ukraine's recent military operations in Russia's Kursk region are part of a broader strategy. This strategy also includes economic and diplomatic measures aimed at pressuring Russia to cease its aggression. "The core objective of our plan is to compel Russia to end the war. This outcome would be just for Ukraine," he said.

While Zelenskyy did not provide specific details on the next steps, he mentioned that he intends to discuss his plan with U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and likely with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump as well. He hopes to visit the United States in September for the U.N. General Assembly and anticipates meetings with President Biden.

Zelenskyy's comments suggest that he views an international peace summit as a key platform for negotiations, though he has noted that the first summit in Switzerland, held in June, did not include Russian representatives. Ukraine had hoped to engage with global leaders, including China, but faced challenges in winning broad international support.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov dismissed the possibility of talks following Ukraine's significant cross-border incursion into Kursk on August 6.

In a recent conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed support for a swift and peaceful resolution to the conflict.

Zelenskyy has been firm in rejecting any settlement that allows Russia to dictate terms. He criticized Putin's approach, which includes demands for Ukraine to accept Russian control over parts of Ukrainian territory. Despite Russia's claims, Ukraine reports control over more than 1,200 square kilometers in Kursk.

"There can be no compromises with Putin. Today's dialogue is essentially futile because he refuses to seek a diplomatic resolution," Zelenskyy stated.

On the battlefield, Zelenskyy highlighted Ukraine's gains in Kursk, where Ukrainian forces have reportedly captured 100 settlements. Meanwhile, Russian troops continue their advances in the eastern Donetsk region.

Zelenskyy also noted that Ukraine is making strides in domestic arms production, including the recent successful test of a locally-produced ballistic missile.
