Agartala: Voting for 60 assembly seats in Tripura is underway on Thursday (February 16). Polling began at 7 am at 3,337 polling stations in the state. Voters will be able to cast their votes till 4 pm. The results will be declared on March 2. As many as 259 candidates from different parties are trying their luck for the 60-member Assembly. Meanwhile, opposition Party Tipra Motha President Pradyot Deb Barma has given a controversial statement.
Speaking to the media, Pradyot Deb Barma has said that we are hoping to win more seats this time. I am not taking any political retirement. I never said I am quitting politics. I will not bow down until my people find a solution. Pradyot Deb Barma said Tipra Motha is the only party that is fighting against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Tipra Motha president Pradyot Deb Barma said, "I was thinking of buying BJP MLAs. If we manage to get 30 seats, I was thinking of selling some parts of my palace and buying some BJP MLAs. If someone sells himself without giving solutions to people, people will defeat them.'' Pradyot Bikram's new party Tipra Motha is contesting 42 of the 60 seats in the state, while the BJP has fielded candidates in 55 seats and its ally IPFT has fielded candidates in five seats. The majority mark in the 60-member Assembly is 31.
