A new report of the World Health Organization (WHO) has made a shocking revelation. According to the report, the use of condoms and contraceptive pills is decreasing among teenagers, which is a matter of concern.
The situation in European countries
According to the report, almost one-third of adolescents in European countries admitted that they did not use condoms or contraceptive pills the last time they had sex. This habit has not changed in the last five years, increasing the risk of diseases and unwanted pregnancies due to unsafe sex.
WHO survey
WHO recently conducted a survey in 42 countries of Europe and the Middle East, which included 2,42,000 adolescents aged 15 years. According to the survey data, the number of boys who used condoms while having sex in 2014 was 70%, which has come down to 61% in 2022.
girls status
The report states that the number of girls who used condoms or birth control pills the last time they had sex has dropped from 63% to 57%. This means that about one-third of teens no longer use condoms when having sex.
Why is condom use declining?
According to a WHO survey, the use of contraceptive pills has remained stable from 2014 to 2022. 26% of girls aged 15 years used these pills during their last sexual intercourse. 33% of adolescents from lower middle class families did not use condoms or contraceptive pills, while this figure was 25% among adolescents from high class families.
Lack of sex education
WHO's Europe director, Hans Kluge, says that sex education is still not being provided in many countries of Europe. Such problems are increasing due to not telling the youth about the dangers and harms of unsafe sex at the right time.
