During an interview, star Vijay Sethupathi discussed openly about a clash he had with director Vignesh Shivan during the shooting of their film 'Maharaja', which has been captivating audiences since its release.

Vijay recalled a disagreement that arose between him and Vignesh during the shooting of the 2015 film 'Naanum Rowdy Dhaan'. He mentioned that tensions escalated to heated arguments even over the phone.

On the first day of shooting for 'Maharaja', Vijay wasted no time in confronting Vignesh about their differences in acting styles. He questioned whether Vignesh was trying to teach him acting, feeling that Vignesh did not understand him or his approach.

In an interview with India Today, Vijay revealed that four days after their argument, Nayanthara, Vignesh Shivan's wife and a star actress, intervened. She asked Vijay what had caused the disagreement between them.

Vijay explained to Nayanthara that he was struggling to connect with the character as Vignesh had suggested. However, he later admitted that he and Vignesh took some time to understand each other.

Despite their initial conflict, Vijay Sethupathi praised Vignesh Shivan's unique working style, saying that Vignesh operates in a way that is not easily understood but leads to magic on screen. It is these experiences that have shaped him into the actor he is today.

'Maharaja', starring Vijay Sethupathi, released in theaters on June 14th. The film also features Anurag Kashyap, Bharti Raja, Abhirami, Singampuli, and Mamta Mohandas among other stars.
