Tim Walz Leads JD Vance in Popularity Ahead of Vice Presidential Debate, Polls Show

A recent poll reveals that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, the Democratic vice-presidential candidate, holds a stronger favorability rating among voters compared to his Republican counterpart, Ohio Senator JD Vance. As the two prepare for their upcoming vice-presidential debate, the survey shows that Walz is generally viewed more positively, posing challenges for the Republican ticket as voting begins in several states.

The poll indicates that about half of registered voters have a negative opinion of Vance, a rise from 40% in late July. In contrast, only about one-quarter view him positively, and another quarter remains unsure about him. On the other hand, Walz has a more favorable standing, with 40% of voters holding a positive opinion, while around 30% view him unfavorably.

Among Democratic voters, Walz is widely liked, with 70% expressing a positive opinion. Comparatively, 60% of Republican voters have a favorable view of Vance.

Walz is more popular than Vance among both male and female voters, with around 40% of men and women viewing Walz favorably. In comparison, Vance is positively rated by only 30% of men and 25% of women.

Support for Walz is particularly strong among older voters, with half of those aged 60 and above viewing him favorably, compared to just 30% for Vance.

However, Walz trails Vice President Kamala Harris in support among Black voters and women. About 75% of Black adults view Harris positively, while around 50% feel the same about Walz. Additionally, roughly 30% of women are uncertain about Walz.

Both candidates are relatively lesser-known figures compared to Harris and former President Donald Trump, even among their own party members. For example, around 25% of white voters without a college degree are unsure about Vance, and approximately 40% of voters aged 18 to 29 have no opinion of Walz.

As the vice-presidential candidates gain more national attention, their popularity is expected to shift.
