Agartala: Voting for the 60-member Tripura Assembly began at 7 am on Thursday. For this, a total of 3,337 polling booths have been set up in the state, where voting will continue till 4 pm. Till 9 am, 12.76 percent voting has been recorded in the state. A total of 28.13 lakh people will decide the fate of 259 candidates in a single phase of polling. The results will be declared on March 2.

Earlier, there was a BJP government in the state and Manik Saha was the Chief Minister. Campaigning in the state came to an end on Tuesday evening. Chief Electoral Officer Gitte Kirankumar Dinkar Rao said that voting is being held in 3,337 polling booths. Of these, 1,100 booths are sensitive, while 28 booths are hyper-sensitive. Strict security arrangements have been made in these areas. As soon as the election campaign was over, Section 144 was imposed in the state.

A total of 20 women are vying for the post of MLA in the Tripura elections. The BJP is contesting 55 seats in Tripura, while its ally IPFT has staked a claim on six seats. The BJP has given tickets to 12 women candidates. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP president JP Nadda, Manoj Tiwari, and many other veterans took the lead in campaigning for the BJP. At the same time, no big Congress leader was seen here.
