The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has announced a two-day nationwide protest starting on Friday, condemning the alleged atrocities against religious minorities in Bangladesh. The protest, which will be joined by the VHP, Bajrang Dal, and various Hindu organizations, aims to raise awareness and call for the protection of minorities and their human rights, VHP national spokesperson Vinod Bansal said.
Bansal accused the government of Bangladesh of being influenced by "Islamic jihadist elements" and emphasized the urgency of the protest in response to the ongoing violence against religious minorities in the country. He called on people to join in for the "human cause" and expressed the need for action to save the minorities in Bangladesh.
"Let's all come and join for Human cause!! VHP nationwide protest to save minorities in Bangladesh today," Bansal posted on social media.
Hindus make up about 8% of Bangladesh's population, which totals around 170 million. In recent months, the minority community has suffered over 200 attacks across 50 districts since the fall of the Awami League government in early August.
The situation escalated this week after Hindu spiritual leader Das was arrested on charges of sedition. His bail was denied by a court, sparking protests from community members in various cities, including the capital Dhaka and the port city of Chattogram.
India has expressed its "deep concern" over the arrest and denial of bail to Das. The Indian government has called on Bangladesh authorities to ensure the safety and security of Hindus and all other minority groups in the country.
