Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand said on Tuesday that most part of the preparation of the draft for the Uniform Civil Code is completed and the government-formulated committee will submit its proposals by June 30th.
One of the main pledges made by the BJP during the recent assembly elections in the hill state was the introduction of a uniform civil code. Days after taking office, Dhami established the UCC's five-member committee.
Speaking to media in Kashipur, in the Udham Singh Nagar district, Dhami stated that 90% of the work connected to the writing of the UCC has been finished by the group led by former Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai.
"Nearly 90% of the work for the committee we formed to draught the Uniform Civil Code has been finished. By June 30th, they will have the draught ready. We'll work towards putting the Uniform Civil Code into effect. We anticipate that other states in the nation will take steps to create a uniform civil code.
All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA and party general secretary Rafiqul Islam, who opposes the plan, claimed on Monday that the BJP is just bringing up the UCC in order to play vote-bank politics even though it is aware that it cannot implement it across the nation.
"BJP also understands very well that it cannot impose the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the nation. However, the BJP is simply bringing it up to win over voters, according to Rafiqul Islam.
In Goa, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Kerala, Chennai, and Bengaluru, the BJP cannot implement it. The BJP is aware of this as well, which is why they focus on the state rather than Delhi when they speak. They promised to introduce UCC before the election in Gujarat, and they made a similar promise in Uttarakhand. They then adopted a resolution and approved a law. Why, then, hasn't Uttarakhand adopted it? They are unable to bring the UCC because a similar incident previously occurred in Uttar Pradesh, Rafiqul Islam said.
Uniform Civil Code will be implemented in Uttarakhand after June 30
