PRAYAGRAJ: The Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board (UPSEB) has began the process of withdrawing the recognition of  as many as 67 schools where proxy candidates were nabbed taking examinations in high school and intermediate board exams.

A total of 120 impersonators, known as 'Munna Bhai' in local parlance, have been caught from these schools and after registering a report against them, they have been sent to jail. "We have identified 67 colleges in the state from where proxy candidates were booked. However, due to the vigilance of the board, 120 such proxy candidates have been caught," said the UP Board Secretary,  and Legal action has been taken against allDivya Kant Shukla.

Based on the report it obtained through DIOS, the Board has compiled a list of these institutions, and despite enrolling proxy candidates, these institutions have not complied with the requirements for recognition.

"These schools broke the rule outlined in Regulation 11 of Chapter VII of the Secondary Education Act of 1921 by conducting examinations in a manner that was seriously irregular. This will result in the institutions' recognition being revoked, "Shukla said, adding that  the procedure to revoke recognition from all 67 schools has begun.

In the meantime, the state's government and aided schools will have their annual home tests for classes 1 through 8 from March 20 to 24.

Report cards will be given out on March 31 after the review of the answer sheets and production of the results has been completed through March 30.

There has been a two-year break since the last exams. While oral exams would be given to children in Class 1, Pratap Singh Baghel, the secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Council, said that pupils in Classes 2 through 5 will take both oral and written exams.

There will be only written examinations for Class 6 to 8.
