Following the recent NEET-NET issues, the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has introduced major reforms in its recruitment examinations to curb cheating. Key changes include replacing series numbers with bar codes on answer sheets and printing multiple versions of question papers from different locations.

Enhanced Security Measures

The primary aim of these changes is to close existing loopholes and prevent cheating. A significant new rule is that the decision on which set of question papers to distribute will be made just five hours before the exam. Additionally, each set will have multiple series with questions arranged in different orders to further minimize cheating opportunities.

Bar Code System Implementation

For the first time, UPPSC used a bar code system in the question booklets during the recent assistant town planner preliminary exam, replacing the traditional series method. This system helps in better tracking and managing the distribution of question papers.

Handling Objections

Candidates who wish to challenge the released questions and answers must submit the complete question on a specified format, including the question's serial number and their proposed correct answer.

Exam Scheduling

A new government directive mandates that if more than 5 lakh candidates are appearing for any recruitment exam, it must be conducted in two shifts to manage the large number of test-takers efficiently.

Past Incidents and Reforms

Earlier this year, on March 2, UPPSC had to cancel the preliminary exam for recruiting review officers and assistant review officers due to a paper leak. In June, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) discovered a gang responsible for leaking a question paper from a Bhopal printing press. Rajeev Nayan Mishra, previously involved in leaking UP Police recruitment papers, was found in Bhopal during this period and was subsequently arrested.

These reforms by UPPSC highlight their commitment to maintaining the integrity and fairness of their recruitment process. By addressing past malpractice incidents, they aim to improve the examination environment for all candidates.
