Sultanpur, UP: An MP-MLA court has ordered Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to appear on July 2 in a defamation case related to his alleged objectionable remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The case was filed by BJP leader Vijay Mishra in 2018.
On Wednesday, complaint lawyer Santosh Kumar Pandey informed the court that an individual named Ram Pratap requested to be included in the case. Pandey opposed this plea, arguing that Pratap was neither a victim nor connected to the matter. Rahul Gandhi's lawyer, Kashi Prasad Shukla, also opposed the petition.
Despite these objections, the court dismissed the request and mandated Gandhi's personal appearance for the next hearing.
The defamation case stems from remarks Gandhi allegedly made during his "Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra" in Amethi earlier this year. On February 20, Gandhi appeared in court and was granted bail.
