Meerut: In a devastating incident in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, at least nine members of a family have been killed, and four are feared trapped following the collapse of a three-storey house on Saturday. The incident occurred around 5:15 PM in the Zakir Nagar area. Rescue efforts are currently underway, involving the National Disaster Response Force, fire brigade, and police teams.
The building, owned by a dairy operator, also housed over two dozen buffaloes, which are feared to be trapped under the debris. Initial reports indicated that fifteen people were trapped inside the building. Of these, eleven were rescued and taken to a hospital, but nine of them succumbed to their injuries. The victims have been identified as Sajid (40), his daughter Saniya (15), son Saqib (11), Simra (1.5 years), Reeza (7), Naffo (63), Farhana (20), Alisa (18), and Aliya (6).
Senior officials, including Meerut Zone Additional Director General of Police D.K. Thakur, Divisional Commissioner Selva Kumari J., Inspector General of Police Nachiketa Jha, and Senior Superintendent of Police Vipin Tada, are on-site overseeing the rescue operation. The narrow lanes of the area have complicated rescue efforts, rendering JCB machines ineffective. Rescue teams continue their efforts to locate and assist the trapped individuals.
