CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu state government has enacted an ordinance mandating all government employees to take a Tamil qualification exam. Previously, even candidates who did not speak the language were able to gain jobs in the government. Within two years of joining the military, they must pass a Tamil Class X exam.
"For all recruitment exams conducted by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission, the Tamil qualifying exam is mandatory. To pass the Class X-level exam, candidates must have a minimum score of 40%. If candidates do not pass the Tamil exam, TNPSC will not analyse their answer sheets for other courses "Human Resource Management Secretary Mythili K Rajendran issued an order on Wednesday that takes effect immediately.
Separate orders on Tamil exams would be issued for exams administered by the Teachers Recruitment Board, the Medical Services Recruitment Board, the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board, and the Tamil Nadu Forest Uniformed Services Recruitment Committee.
Candidates must take the Tamil Eligibility cum Scoring Test, which is worth 150 points, as well as general studies, aptitude, and mental ability papers, all worth 150 points. The other paper will be considered only if candidates score 40 percent in the Tamil Eligibility cum Scoring Test.
