Agartala: Sayani Ghosh, state secretary of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal, has been arrested IN attempt to murder for threatening CM Biplab Kumar Deb during a meeting in Tripura on Saturday night. He was first called to the police station for questioning and then arrested. The arrest comes a day before TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee's proposed visit to the northeastern state.
Sub Divisional Police Officer (Sadar) Ramesh Yadav has said that Sayani Ghosh has been charged with section 307 of an attempt to murder and Section 153A of an attempt to murder for statements against CM Deb and spreading enmity between two communities. Some of the people who accompanied him had thrown stones during a meeting of CM Deb. On the other hand, on condition of anonymity, a police officer said that Ghosh reached the CM's venue and raised slogans 'Khela Hobe'. It may be mentioned that during the Assembly elections held in West Bengal during March-April, TMC had given the slogan 'Khela Hobe'. The TMC leader alleged that BJP workers misbehaved with his supporters outside East Agartala police station.
Party sources said a delegation of TMC MPs has arrived in Delhi to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the issue of alleged police brutality in Tripura. Sources said the party delegation consists of 10-12 people. TMC has sought an appointment with the Home Minister and party leaders are scheduled to sit on dharna from Monday morning.
