Yash Johar was born on 6 September 1929 in a Punjabi family in Amritsar, Punjab. He married Hiroo Chopra, sister of BR Chopra and Yash Chopra. In 1979, Yash Johar founded his production company Dharma Productions and made many memorable films under it. Yash Johar died on 26 June 2004 and after that, his son Karan Johar took over the reins of Dharma Productions.
Yash Johar started his career as a journalist and photographer. After this, he started working for the production houses of Sunil Dutt and Dev Anand. After many years of hard work and struggle, he established his own company Dharma Productions in 1976.
His first film was 'Dostana' (1980), which was directed by Raj Khosla and this film proved to be a super hit. After this, he made films like 'Duniya', 'Agneepath', 'Gumrah' and 'Duplicate', which were not very successful.
Yash Johar's company Dharma Productions' biggest blockbuster film was 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', which was directed by his son Karan Johar. This was Karan's first film, which achieved great success at the box office. After this, Yash Johar handed over the responsibility of Dharma Productions completely to Karan.
