CHICAGO:Â The third day of the Democratic National Convention took on a spiritual dimension with a unique opening led by Pandit Rakesh Bhatt, a renowned Hindu priest. Held at the United Center, the event marked a significant moment as Bhatt began with a traditional Vedic prayer invoking the ancient Indian principle of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,' meaning 'the whole world is one family.'
Pandit Bhatt’s prayer, chanted in Sanskrit and translated into English, resonated through the hall. “Even if we have differences, when it comes to the nation, we have to be united,” Bhatt said. “Let our minds think together. Let our hearts beat as one. All for the betterment of society. May this make us powerful so we can unite and make our nation proud.”
A Call for Unity and Inclusivity
Bhatt’s prayer was delivered just after the convention’s official opening. It focused on themes of unity, peace, and justice, setting a tone of togetherness among the delegates. Following the prayer, the national anthem was sung, emphasizing the collective spirit of the gathering.
"We are one universal family. Truth is our foundation and always prevails. Lead us from unreal to real, from darkness to the light, and from death to immortality. Om Shanti Shanti Shanti," Bhatt continued, highlighting the need for harmony amidst national challenges.
