Got fame from 'Aashiqui'

Mahesh Bhatt's directorial venture 'Aashiqui' was released in 1990, in which Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal made their acting debut. The film and its songs like 'Nazar ke Samne', 'Dheere-Dheere Se', 'Bas Ek Sanam Chahiye', and 'Jaane Jigar Jaaneman' were super hits. 'Aashiqui' made Anu Agarwal a star overnight.

Film career and struggle

After 'Aashiqui', Anu worked in films like 'King Uncle', 'Khal-Nayika' and 'Janam Kundli', but none of the films could repeat the success of 'Aashiqui'. Anu was also trolled for her dark complexion. After just six years, she distanced herself from acting.

Accident and life change

In 1999, Anu was the victim of a terrible car accident. In this accident, she remained in a coma for 29 days and she also lost her memory. In an interview, Anu said that while returning from a party, her car met with an accident in which she suffered serious injuries. Due to paralysis, her recovery took three years and during this time she had to bear a lot of pain.

Anu said that when her memory returned, she saw the film 'Aashiqui', but she did not remember anything. Her mother showed the film, but Anu had difficulty recognizing herself. Anu said, "I was watching the film like a child and could not understand that it was my film."

The decision to become a monk and autobiography

In 2001, Anu decided to take to the mountains as a sadhu. In 2015, she wrote her autobiography 'Anusual: Memoir of a Girl Who Came Back from the Dead', in which she described her film career as the "saddest time" of her life.

Relief and New Life in Yoga

Speaking to the media, Anu revealed why she left the industry. She said, "It is easy to taste success, but I chose to walk out of it. I wanted to know myself better, which is beyond my role as an actress. I found relief in yoga and today I want to tell this way of living to as many people as possible." Anu Agarwal now lives in Mumbai, does yoga, and is also active on social media. She now wants to return to acting and is meeting filmmakers for this.
