Bhopal: After the proposed MP Right to Water Act, those who pollute the water of river-pond, well, and stepwell can be jailed. In the draft of this proposed law, one who to suffer 18 months jail and 1 lakh rupees fine for polluting public water resources.
If the same drinking water supply institutions (Municipal Corporation or Gram Panchayat) failed to meet the prescribed standards of clean drinking water then fine of Rs. 5000 has to be paid. Similarly, those who do not install water harvesting units in the houses will have to pay Rs. 5 thousand.
According to the draft of the Right to Water Act, chaired by Jalpurush Rajendra Singh, the State Water Management Authority will be constituted in the state to ensure the right to water. For the immediate resolution of complaints related to this, a Water Grievance Redressal Officer will be appointed in every urban body in urban areas. There will be a Water Grievance Redressal Officer at the block level in the rural area. He will be appointed only for 5 years. They will be reappointed after every 5 years or so.
In the draft of the proposed law, contaminating the water source is classified as a cognizable offense. The person committing this crime will be arrested and cannot be released without bail from the court. On this matter, any judge of first class magistrate level will be able to order action against the person who contaminates water even after taking automatic cognizance in this case, this is a good step by which people can be made aware of water. Which will reduce such cases. To this extent, water can also be saved from being polluted.
