BENGALURU: In a major development, the Textbook Revision Committee, headed by writer Rohith Chakrathirtha, has been disbanded by the Karnataka government.
The development comes after the committee after the committee faced flak for allegedly saffronizing school curricula and denigrating Karnataka's famous personalities. Religious seers wrote letters to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, urging him to correct the errors and warning the state government not to play with people's emotions.
The Committee was disbanded once its review work was completed, according to a statement issued by the Chief Minister on Friday night. He also stated that the state's ruling BJP government is willing to make more changes to the curriculum.
Bommai went on to say that the textbook revision exercise is done on a regular basis to see whether there is any inappropriate information in the Kannada and Social Science textbooks for students. "The syllabus's content on Basavanna has been objected by Panditaradhya Swamiji and other seers. When compared to the previous editing committee led by Prof Baragur Ramachandrappa, the content of Basavanna is the same. The content on Basavanna, on the other hand, would be changed in such a way that no one's sentiments are wounded "he stated. Bommai said, no lessons on great personalities have been removed from the curriculum, as the opposition claims. He said, the new syllabus includes lessons on Hinduism, Islam, and Christian religions.
