Hyderabad: Tensions surged in Vikarabad district, Telangana, on Wednesday following a dispute between two communities over the erection of a flag at the old bus stand. The conflict began when members of the Muslim community placed a green flag at the site, which was subsequently removed and discarded onto the road by members of the Hindu community. The act triggered a heated dispute and heightened tensions among locals.

The situation quickly escalated, leading to a lathicharge by the police to disperse the agitated crowd. Senior officials from Hyderabad have been dispatched to oversee the situation. Senior police official Yogesh Goutam explained, "The incident occurred at the old bus stand, where a bust of Veer Savarkar is located next to a caution board. Members of the Muslim community had erected a flag for Milad un Nabi, which led to objections from the Hindu community, who argued that such a flag had never been displayed there before.

This disagreement resulted in a heated argument and stone-throwing between the groups. Our personnel intervened with a mild lathi charge to control the situation. We have now restored order, and the Milad un Nabi procession will proceed as planned. Additional security personnel have been deployed at sensitive locations to maintain peace and prevent further disturbances."
