Dhaka: The situation for minority Hindus in Bangladesh has taken a severe turn, with reports now indicating that Hindu government employees are being forced out of their jobs. Since August 5, around 50 Hindu teachers have been compelled to resign from their positions under duress.
This disturbing development was exposed by the Bangladesh Chhatra Aikya Parishad, a student wing associated with the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Aikya Parishad, during a press conference on Saturday. Media sources have obtained a list of the resigned teachers, including a photograph of Shukla Roy, the principal of Government Bakarganj College, who was coerced into writing "I resign" on a blank sheet of paper.
Several of these teachers have come forward to confirm their forced resignations. Sanjoy Kumar Mukherjee, an Associate Professor in the Department of Public Administration and Governance Studies at Kazi Nazrul University, shared his ordeal, saying, "I am Sanjoy Kumar Mukherjee, an Associate Professor in the Department of Public Administration and Governance Studies at Kazi Nazrul University, Bangladesh. I have been forced to resign from my roles as Proctor and Head of Department. We are currently living in a state of extreme insecurity."
Taslima Nasreen, a Bangladeshi writer in exile, voiced her concerns on social media platform X, emphasizing the worsening conditions in Bangladesh. She wrote, "The situation in Bangladesh has become increasingly alarming. Teachers are being coerced into resigning. Journalists, ministers, and former government officials are being killed, tortured, and imprisoned. Industries belonging to Ahmadi Muslims have been torched by GenZ, and shrines and dargahs of Sufi Muslims are being destroyed by Islamic extremists. Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus continues to remain silent in the face of this escalating crisis."
