Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has apologized to the Supreme Court following criticism over his comments regarding the court's decision to grant bail to BRS leader K Kavitha. On Friday, Reddy posted a message on X (formerly Twitter) expressing his deep respect for the judiciary and clarifying that his earlier remarks were misunderstood.

In his apology, Reddy noted, "I have the highest regard and full faith in the Indian Judiciary. I realize that certain press reports dated August 29, 2024, may have given the wrong impression that I am questioning the wisdom of the Hon'ble Court."

Reddy reaffirmed his commitment to the Constitution and the judicial process, saying, "I firmly believe in the judicial process and express my unconditional regret for any statements that may have been taken out of context. I have the utmost respect for the Judiciary and its independence, and I continue to hold it in the highest esteem."

The Supreme Court had expressed strong displeasure with Reddy's comments made after the court granted bail to K Kavitha. A bench of justices criticized the Telangana CM for his remarks, which questioned the timing of Kavitha’s bail compared to other cases. The court underscored that judicial decisions are independent and must be respected.

The justices noted that while criticism is permissible, the court operates based on its conscience and legal principles. They warned that if respect for the Supreme Court is not maintained, there could be consequences, including the potential relocation of the trial outside Telangana.

K Kavitha was released from Tihar Jail on August 27, following the Supreme Court's bail decision. This comes as investigations continue into alleged irregularities in the 'excise policy case' by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
