CHENNAI: To encourage more girls to pursue higher education, the Tamil Nadu Higher Education Department will open ten new arts and science colleges in the state. As an incentive to seek higher education, the state government has already allocated Rs 1,000 per month for girls.
In Manapparai, Chenjee, Thali, Tirumaiyam, Andhiyur, Aruvakurichi, Tirukkatupalli, Reddiyarchathiram, Vadalur, and Sriperumpadur, colleges are being built.
Commenting on the development, Higher Education Minister K. Pondmudi said: "We'll be launching 10 new arts and science colleges, with a strong emphasis on female students. The Chief Minister has announced a monthly monitoring allowance of Rs 1,000 for female students pursuing higher education. As a result, more female students will enroll in colleges, and more colleges will be opened." He also stated that the administration expects 2 lakh female students to enrol in colleges each year as a result of the government's monthly monetary assistance scheme.
The minister announced that Rs 165.50 crore has been approved for the development of ten new government arts and science colleges, which would open in the coming academic year.
The state's higher education department has already approved a Rs 1,000 crore infrastructure improvement for 55 government arts and science institutions and 26 technical institutes. It has set up Rs 130 crore for the development of dormitory facilities at government colleges, including the Guindy campus of Anna University.
