Lucknow: Counting of votes is underway for the elections to the 18th Legislative Assembly of UP. According to the trends, BJP has made a lead in 276 seats in Uttar Pradesh. While the Samajwadi Party seems to be confined to only 120 seats. Chief Minister Yogi is leading by 68 thousand votes from Gorakhpur city seat. Samajwadi Party candidate from Karhal Akhilesh Yadav is leading by around 35,000 votes. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya is trailing. At the same time, the first result has come from Sitapur. Suresh Rahi of BJP has defeated Ramhet Bharti of Samajwadi Party.

In Kannauj, there has been tension between BJP and Samajwadi Party candidates since morning outside the counting venue. On one hand, BJP workers were shouting slogans of Jai Shri Ram and on the other hand SP Akhilesh Yadav was raising slogans of Zindabad. At the same time, as the victory of BJP drew nearer, the SP was shocked. Thereafter, they started pelting stones at the counting site itself. Due to which there was an atmosphere of chaos and many people got injured due to stone pelting. Seeing the uproar, the police charged the crowd with sticks and drove everyone outside the counting site.

The same is being said that from around 11 am, the SPs started creating a ruckus outside the counting place. Due to which more police force was deployed. In spite of the defeat, the Spaniards vented their anger by pelting stones. However, the situation still remains tense. At the same time, in Mahoba, the candidates created a ruckus by accusing them of malfunctioning of EVMs. Alleging technical shortcomings, Samajwadi Party and Janadhikar Party boycotted the counting of votes. Agents of both the parties came out of the counting venue. Thereafter, a complaint letter was given in writing to the Observer.
