Triumph Motorcycles has recently updated its 400cc lineup. This new range includes the Speed T4 and the updated Speed 400. The designs of both the bikes are quite similar, but there is a slight difference in the prices. The ex-showroom price of the Speed T4 is Rs 2.17 lakh, while the starting price of the Speed 400 is Rs 2.40 lakh. Thus, there is a difference of Rs 23,000 in the price of the two bikes.
Design similarities and differences: The Triumph Speed T4 and Speed 400 look quite similar, but there are some stylish differences. The Speed T4 has bright stripes on the wheels and a big '400' logo on the side of the fuel tank. The Speed 400, on the other hand, has gold-plated inverted forks. Both bikes have alloy wheels, round headlight, single-piece seat and a specially designed fuel tank. The Speed T4 is available in three colours—Metallic White, Phantom Black and Cocktail Red Wine.
Difference in size of bikes: The Speed T4 has a handlebar of 827 mm, while the Speed 400 has 829 mm. The Speed T4 has a 2 mm higher height and the wheelbase is 50 mm different. In terms of weight, the Speed 400 is 1 kg lighter than the Speed T4. Both bikes have the same brakes—300 mm at the front and 230 mm at the rear with ABS as standard. In terms of tyres, the Speed T4 has MRF Nylogrip Zapper tyres, while the Speed 400 gets MRF Steel Brace or Apollo Alpha H1 radial tyres.
Engine and Performance: Both bikes have a 399cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, but there is a difference in the transmission. The Speed T4 has a 5-speed gearbox, while the Speed 400 has a 6-speed gearbox. The power output of the Speed 400 is 39.5 bhp and torque is 37.5 Nm, while the power of the Speed T4 is 30.6 bhp and torque is 36 Nm.
Feature differences: Both bikes get features like ride-by-wire throttle, slip and assist clutch, dual-channel ABS and a semi-digital instrument cluster. However, the Speed 400 also gets a switchable traction control system, which the Speed T4 does not get. Thus, the Triumph Speed T4 offers more power and some different features than the Speed 400.
