Several shots were fired at Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign office in Arizona, raising concerns about safety, police reported. The incident occurred just over a week after a second assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump.
According to the Tempe Police Department, the damage from the gunfire was discovered at the Democratic National Committee campaign office located near Southern Avenue and Priest Drive. The shooting happened sometime after midnight on Monday.
"No one was inside the office during the overnight hours, but this raises concerns about the safety of those who work in that building, as well as those nearby," said Public Information Officer Sgt. Ryan Cook.
Authorities are analyzing evidence collected from the scene, and additional security measures have been implemented to ensure the safety of staff and others in the vicinity.
The campaign office staff discovered the damage when they arrived on Monday morning and noticed that gunshots had pierced the front windows. This marks the second time the office has experienced criminal damage in recent weeks. On September 16, the front windows were shot with what police suspect to be a BB or pellet gun.
No arrests have been made in connection to either incident, and investigations are ongoing to determine possible motives.
This shooting comes shortly after the second attempt on Trump’s life on September 15 at his West Palm Beach golf course. A 58-year-old man from Hawaii, Ryan Routh, was caught after a Secret Service agent spotted the muzzle of a semiautomatic rifle near the sixth hole. The agent opened fire before Routh could shoot. He fled but was arrested 40 minutes later.
Harris is expected to visit Arizona for a campaign event on Friday, her second visit to the crucial swing state since her nomination. Polls show a tight race between Harris and Trump in Arizona, with Election Day approaching in just six weeks.
