New Delhi: The Supreme Court will hear today the horrific incident that happened with a female trainee doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. The Supreme Court itself has taken cognizance of this matter and a bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud has been constituted to hear the case. This matter is serious, and it is being investigated by the CBI. Also, the state government has also formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
Steps being taken for the safety of doctors
Protests are being held across the country against this tragic incident that happened with the female doctor. Doctors from various hospitals are demanding the strictest punishment for all the culprits involved in this incident. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has also demanded strict action on this issue. Apart from this, an appeal is also being made to take immediate steps to ensure the safety of doctors. Doctors' organizations have insisted that along with bringing the culprits to justice, concrete steps should be taken to prevent such incidents in future.
The body was found under mysterious circumstances
A few days ago, the body of a female trainee doctor of Kolkata's R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital was found under mysterious circumstances. The doctor was a second year postgraduate student in the Chest Medicine Department and was also working as a house staff. Her body was found on the fourth floor of the hospital's emergency building, which caused a sensation in the entire hospital.
CBI investigation and case in fast-track court
The case is being investigated by the CBI. State Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has given instructions to take the case to a fast-track court so that the culprits can be punished as soon as possible. She has also said that if needed, efforts will be made to get the accused hanged.
Doctors' demands and government's response
After this incident, doctors have raised their voice regarding their safety. Keeping in mind the protest of doctors, the Union Health Ministry has assured to take every possible step to ensure their safety. The ministry has announced that a special committee will be formed for the safety of health professionals, which will work in this direction. This announcement has been made after representatives of the Federation of Resident Doctors' Association, Indian Medical Association, and Resident Doctors Association of various government medical colleges and hospitals of Delhi met with officials of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. This incident is giving rise to serious concerns about the safety of medical professionals across the country. The investigation being conducted in this case by the Supreme Court and the CBI is expected to bring strict punishment to the culprits and concrete measures will be taken to prevent such incidents in future.
