A court in Sambhal has directed the commissioner appointed by the court to submit the survey report on Jama Masjid within the next 10 days, following claims that a temple once stood at the location. The court has scheduled the next hearing for January 8.

The hearing was conducted by Civil Judge Aditya Singh, and the court-appointed commissioner, Rakesh Singh Raghav, explained that the survey report had not been completed and additional time was needed. The court granted the request and set a new date for the hearing.

Amir Hussain, the lawyer representing the Mosque Committee, mentioned that both Hindu and Muslim representatives were present in the court, along with the commissioner who had inspected the site. The commissioner informed the court that he was unable to prepare the report in time. In response, the judge emphasized that there would be no further opportunities to visit the site and instructed the commissioner to submit the report within 10 days.

Tensions in Sambhal have been rising since November 19 when a court-ordered survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid began amid claims that a Harihar temple had previously stood at the same location. The situation escalated on November 24 during the second phase of the survey, leading to violent clashes between protesters and security forces. The unrest resulted in stone-pelting and arson, leaving four people dead and several others injured.
