Kyiv: On September 3, Russian forces launched two ballistic missiles at the city of Poltava, resulting in at least 41 deaths and injuring over 180 people, as reported by President Volodymyr Zelensky. The missiles struck an educational institution and a nearby medical facility, also causing partial destruction to the Military Institute of Communications.

The Defense Ministry noted that the time between the alarm and the missile impact was so brief that many people were caught during their attempt to evacuate to bomb shelters. Rescue operations are ongoing, with many individuals still trapped under the debris. By 2 p.m. local time, emergency services had managed to rescue 25 people, including 11 from the rubble.

In response to the attack, Zelensky has ordered an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the strike. The Defense Ministry condemned the attack as a vile act meant to intimidate Ukrainians and urged the public to rely solely on official information sources. Poltava Oblast, situated in central Ukraine, has been a frequent target of Russian drone and missile assaults.
