For the first time in 73 days, Russia launched a missile and drone assault on Kyiv early Wednesday morning, causing widespread damage. Local authorities are still assessing the impact of the attack.

Air raid sirens echoed across the city for several hours. According to Serhii Popko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, defense forces managed to intercept and destroy several cruise and ballistic missiles, as well as nearly a dozen drones.

A 48-year-old man sustained head injuries in Kyiv’s Brovary district due to debris from the assault. The resulting debris also ignited a fire at a warehouse, said Kyiv Governor Ruslan Kravchenko.

To conserve energy, Popko announced that daytime electricity would be restricted for businesses and industries in Kyiv. This move follows recent shelling by Russian forces, which has led to a shortfall in power generation.

Just last month, on June 12, Russian forces carried out a massive aerial attack on Ukraine. The assault included dozens of drones and missiles, primarily targeting Kyiv and other regions. The attack featured four X-101/X-555 cruise missiles launched from aircraft in the Saratov region, one Iskander-M ballistic missile from Crimea, and an aerobatic X-47M2 Kinzhal missile from the Tambov region.
