Lucknow: The Jama Masjid in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh district is claimed to have been built in a public place. The claim is being made after a reply from RTI. It is being told that in the reply sought by Keshav Dutt Sharma under the officer of information, the municipal corporation has admitted that the Jama Masjid is built in a public place. Now a letter has been written to the DM to demolish this mosque. According to media reports, the mosque is in Aligarh's Uparkot area. It is said to be 300 years old.

BJP leaders have also started raising their voices against this mosque now. He demanded the demolition of the mosque, terming it illegal, while the Samajwadi Party (SP) has termed it as an attempt to divert attention from public interest issues. RTI activist Keshav had asked these questions in June 2021 under the 'Right to Public Information Act.' In this RTI, it was also asked who belongs to this land and how much tax is paid? In response to these questions, the Aligarh Municipal Corporation replied that no one owns the ownership of the place where Jama masjid is located and it remains in a public place.  

After receiving a reply from the municipal corporation, the RTI activist wrote to the district magistrate of Aligarh on May 8, 2022, along with the commissioner, municipal commissioner, and the deputy chairman of the development authority, describing the Jama Masjid as an occupation of public land. At the same time, he has written in the letter that if the local administration does not free public land from the possession of the mosque within 15 days, then he will go to court.  BJP leader and former Aligarh Mayor Shakuntala Bharti's statement has also come to the fore in the entire controversy. "If the municipal corporation is accepting that the Jama Masjid is built on public land, it should be demolished. For this, I will write to the Government. At the same time, I will also apprise CM Yogi Adityanath of this fact.''
