On the eve of September 24th, many temples will hold night vigils in preparation for the event. The gathering of devotees will commence in the early morning of September 25th at the ancient Tejaji temple located on New Sanganer Road Sodala in Jaipur, and it will continue late into the night. In addition to seeking darshan (divine viewing) of Tejaji, devotees will carry the sacred Jyot and offer homemade delights such as Kheer Puri, Pua, Coconut, and Patasha. During this time, devotees will fervently pray to Tejaji Maharaj for protection from poisonous animals throughout the coming year.

The Legend of Tejaji

Tejaji's life is a tapestry of valor and sacrifice. According to local folklore, Tejaji was married in his childhood, unbeknownst to him due to a long-standing feud between the two families. Upon discovering his marital status as he grew older, he set out to bring his wife home. Along the way, he encountered a venomous snake, driven by animosity toward his wife's family, that sought to bite him. In a selfless act of valor, Tejaji promised to return to the snake after reuniting with his wife.

During his journey, Tejaji faced numerous adversaries, yet his indomitable spirit allowed him to overcome them all. Having successfully brought his wife back home, Tejaji fulfilled his promise to the snake. He presented himself to the snake, which, unable to find a spot on his body devoid of injuries, bit him on the tongue. Veer Tejaji made the ultimate sacrifice, giving up his life to preserve his family's honor. This act of selflessness elevated him to the status of a revered local deity across Rajasthan.

Historical accounts, however, differ, suggesting that while returning from Paner, Tejaji and his wife were ambushed by Meenas. Despite their courageous resistance, Tejaji succumbed to his injuries. Regardless of the variations in the tale, Tejaji's unwavering commitment to his family's honor remains a testament to his legendary valor.

Tejaji Fair Celebrations

Every year, the Tejaji Fair, known locally as Mela Tejaji, is celebrated with great fervor in Parbatsar, a quaint village situated in Nagaur District of Rajasthan. This vibrant celebration also extends to other districts of Rajasthan, including Beawar, Kishangarh, Bundi, and Ajmer. The immense popularity of Veer Tejaji in Rajasthani culture is evident in the fact that the Indian Postal Department released a special stamp in his honor on September 7th, 2011.
