Renowned filmmaker S S Rajamouli revealed his interest in delving into animation cinema during a recent interaction. Known for his spectacular works like "Baahubali" series, "Eega," and "RRR," Rajamouli expressed his desire to explore new avenues in filmmaking.
"I've been contemplating the idea of directing an animated film for some time now," Rajamouli shared during a press conference in Hyderabad. He drew parallels with his latest venture, "Baahubali: Crown of Blood," an animated series set in the universe of his famed "Baahubali" movies.
Collaborating with Sharad Devarajan of "The Legend of Hanuman" fame for an upcoming Disney+ Hotstar series, Rajamouli emphasized the learning opportunities such projects offer. "Whether it's 'Eega' or my association with Hotstar, these experiences contribute to my growth as a filmmaker," he explained.
Rajamouli acknowledged India's growing audience for animation films, citing the enthusiastic response to international hits like "The Lion King" and "Aladdin." He stressed the need for filmmakers to bridge the gap between audiences and animated content.
Highlighting the limited scope of animation beyond children's cartoons in India compared to the US and Japanese markets, Rajamouli expressed his determination to expand the horizons. He indicated extensive discussions with Devarajan regarding the potential of animation storytelling.
The filmmaker reflected on the success of his "Baahubali" franchise, which marked a milestone in South Indian cinema. While initially reluctant to entrust his creation to others, Rajamouli eventually collaborated with Devarajan on the animated series, ensuring continuity in storytelling.
Recounting the unconventional marketing strategy for "Baahubali: The Beginning," Rajamouli emphasized their focus on innovative digital promotions rather than traditional advertising. He underscored the importance of adapting marketing strategies to individual projects while aiming to engage new audiences.
Set to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on May 17, "Baahubali: Crown of Blood" represents a collaboration between Graphic India, Arka Mediaworks, and Rajamouli's creative vision. Directed by Jeevan J Kang and Navin John, the series promises to captivate audiences with its immersive storytelling and visual grandeur.
