NEW DELHI: The Railway Ministry has decided to halt both the Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) and Level 1 assessments in response to student protests over suspected anomalies in the Railway Recruitment Board exam.
According to a spokesperson for the Railway Ministry, a committee has been formed to hear the views of those who passed or failed the exam, and the committee will then submit its report to the Ministry of Railways. Only then will the Railway Ministry make a decision about the exam.
Some protested in Bihar's Arrah and Sharif Railway stations, while others stopped the main railway routes between New Delhi and Kolkata. In Arrah, demonstrators allegedly set fire to a train.
The railways published a general notice on Tuesday, telling job applicants that those detected participating in vandalism and illegal conduct while demonstrating will be forbidden from ever working for the railways.This came after demonstrators squatted on railway tracks in many locations throughout Bihar the day before.
