TEXAS: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, during his address to the Indian diaspora in Dallas, Texas, expressed concerns about the current state of Indian politics. He reflected on the need for love, respect, and humility to be central values in the political discourse. Gandhi emphasized that these principles should extend to all individuals, irrespective of their religion, caste, or background.

Gandhi discussed the symbolic importance of the Abhayamudra, a gesture representing fearlessness that is present across Indian religions. He stated that after the Lok Sabha election results, the fear of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had diminished among the people. "The other thing that happened was that the fear of the BJP vanished. We saw that immediately, within minutes of the election result, nobody in India was scared of the BJP or the Prime Minister of India. So these are huge achievements, not of Rahul Gandhi or the Congress party. We are peripheral. These are huge achievements of the people of India who realised democracy," said Gandhi.

Criticizing the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Gandhi pointed out that the organization’s ideology of viewing India as a single, uniform concept contrasts sharply with the Congress party’s belief in a multiplicity of ideas. He noted, “Much like the United States, we believe everyone should be given space to participate, dream, and contribute, regardless of their caste, language, religion, or traditions.”

Gandhi also spoke about the importance of fostering an inclusive environment in Indian politics. “Love for all human beings, respect for everyone building India, not just the powerful but also the weakest, and humility within oneself—these are the values we need to uphold,” he said.

Reflecting on the outcome of the Lok Sabha elections, Gandhi reiterated that the defeat of the BJP’s majority lessened the fear many felt towards the party and Prime Minister Modi. He further condemned actions taken by the government that he viewed as attacks on the Constitution, asserting, “We are not going to accept an attack on our Constitution, our religion, or our states.”

In his concluding remarks, Gandhi highlighted the vital role that the Indian diaspora plays in strengthening the relationship between India and the United States. “You have a very important role because the relationship between these two unions will determine the future of both countries,” he said.
