Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi Arrive in Kerala for Priyanka Gandhi's Wayanad By-Poll Nomination
The Wayanad by-poll is scheduled for November 13. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi arrived in Kerala on Wednesday to support Priyanka Gandhi's nomination for the Wayanad by-poll. Rahul Gandhi is set to lead a roadshow in Kalpetta town ahead of the nomination.
Upon their arrival at Sultan Bathery, the Congress leaders were warmly welcomed by party workers. Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, general secretary KC Venugopal, and other prominent leaders are also expected to attend the nomination filing. Priyanka Gandhi will submit her papers at the district collector's office in Kalpetta.
Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) National General Secretary PK Kunhalikutty said thousands of people in Wayanad are expected to join Priyanka Gandhi's nomination rally. He added, “The Gandhi family has shown they can contest from anywhere in India, be it Lakshadweep, Wayanad, or UP. This is going to be a major event here today.”
Following the nomination, Priyanka Gandhi is scheduled to address a public meeting at 11:45 am at Gudalai, opposite the KWA Office in Kalpetta.
The Wayanad seat became vacant after Rahul Gandhi retained his Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat. Priyanka Gandhi will contest against Navya Haridas from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate Sathyan Mokeri. Haridas is a two-time councillor from Kozhikode Corporation.
Rahul Gandhi had expressed confidence in Priyanka Gandhi’s win, saying that both Rae Bareli and Wayanad would now have two MPs.
If successful, Priyanka Gandhi will be the third member of the Gandhi family to enter Parliament. Indian Youth Congress chief Uday Bhanu Chib said, "Priyanka ji raises the voices of women and youth across the country, and soon this voice will resonate in Parliament."
