WAYANAD: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will officially file her nomination for the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election on Wednesday, October 23, said the party sources.
Priyanka Gandhi, who serves as the Congress General Secretary, is set to submit her nomination to the Returning Officer in Kalpetta at 12 noon. Prominent leaders including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former president Sonia Gandhi, and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi will attend the event to lend their support. Additionally, various chief ministers and key national and state leaders are expected to be present.
Prior to her nomination, Priyanka met with Kharge in Delhi to seek his blessings. On the day of the nomination, she and Rahul Gandhi will kick off a roadshow starting at the Kalpetta New Bus Stand at 11 AM, before heading to the district collector’s office to file the nomination papers at noon.
Priyanka Gandhi is the United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate for this parliamentary bye-election. As the party campaigns for her candidacy, workers have put up posters in the constituency, displaying the phrase "Wayanadinte Priyankari" (Wayanad's beloved).
It’s noteworthy that Priyanka’s brother, Rahul Gandhi, previously held the Wayanad seat, winning it during the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 along with his Rae Bareli constituency in Uttar Pradesh. Following the election results on June 4, the Congress party announced that Rahul would retain Rae Bareli and vacate Wayanad, allowing Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to enter the electoral arena.
The Election Commission recently declared the bypolls for Wayanad and Nanded Lok Sabha seats, along with 48 Assembly constituencies. Voting for the Wayanad seat and 47 Assembly seats will occur on November 13, with results to be revealed on November 23.
