On Friday, the Meghalaya government urged all eligible citizens in the state to get vaccinated.After a review meeting on the COVID-19 situation in the State, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong made this appeal.When asked if any people get infected with the virus after receiving the vaccination, Tynsong responded that even if they do, the severity and hospitalisation rates are quite low.
"Those who have already been vaccinated and get sick do not require hospitalisation. Because of the immunisation, they will recover on their own " adds Deputy Chief Minister.Meanwhile, on the 50th anniversary of Meghalaya's statehood, the government agreed on Friday that the celebrations must continue."We have asked the Chief Secretary and the Deputy Commissioners to prepare a thorough programme, and by next week, we will endeavour to decrease the number of people attending the celebration as much as possible," he stated. On Friday, Meghalaya recorded 64 new COVID-19 cases but no deaths.
In the meanwhile, the State has recovered 14 additional cases in the previous 24 hours. The total number of cases recovered now stands at 83,338. The number of active cases has risen to 262, according to a statement from the Health Department.
