As Maharashtra approaches the 2024 assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the Mumbai Metro 3 line in the first week of October. This major transportation project, a crucial development for Mumbai and Maharashtra, has encountered several delays and challenges.

The Metro 3 line stretches 33 kilometers, linking Colaba, Bandra, and Seepz. Construction began in 2016 after the foundation stone was laid by then-Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and then-Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu, during the Devendra Fadnavis administration.

In addition to the Metro line, Modi is likely to open one of the two long-awaited Thane creek bridges, which will offer much-needed relief to commuters traveling to and from Navi Mumbai.

Local residents have eagerly awaited the underground Metro since 2014. After overcoming various environmental objections and hurdles, the first phase from Aarey to Bandra Kurla Complex is now complete and ready for inauguration. The second phase is expected to be finished next year.

Prior to the state elections, another significant infrastructure project--the Coastal Road, an initiative by the Municipal Corporation--was inaugurated by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis. The new Bowstring Arch bridge, connecting Marine Drive to Bandra, is now open for southbound traffic.

In addition to the Mumbai Metro, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Navi Mumbai-bound lanes of the Thane Creek Bridge. Spanning 1.84 kilometers, this bridge will significantly ease traffic for thousands of motorists traveling between Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Pune.

Another key project poised for inauguration is the final stretch of the Samruddhi Mahamarg Expressway. Stretching 701 kilometers, this expressway will connect the Mumbai Metropolitan Region with Nagpur. The completion of the final 76-kilometer phase, from Igatpuri to Amane near Bhiwandi, will mark the end of the project. The Samruddhi Expressway will also integrate with the Mumbai-Vadodara Expressway and the Mumbai-Nashik Highway.
