New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Sansad Khel Mahakumbh by pressing the remote through a virtual medium at 1.20 pm. Earlier, CM Yogi Adityanath addressed the players and the gathering from the stage of Shaheed Satyawan Singh Stadium, the venue of the event.

Chief Minister Yogi said that in the last 8 years, the whole country and the world have witnessed a new India. A changing India has made the world realize its strength in every field. The whole world accepts that it is because of Prime Minister Modi that India acquired the ability to lead the world. This 8-day competition is being held in Basti district. MP Harish Dwivedi was also present on the occasion along with Chief Minister Yogi. The Prime Minister will also witness a Kho-Kho contest between Harraia vs Sadar online.

About 2,90,000 students are participating in cultural festivals and 50,000 players are participating in sports. 22 types of sports and 8 types of cultural festivals will be held over eight days. The event is being broadcast live on the NaMo App and DD Sports. At the district level, the Khel Mahakumbh will be held from January 18 to 28. There will be 22 types of sports including Cricket, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Handball, Basketball, Badminton, Hockey, Football, Volleyball, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500 meters race, Discus throw, Shot put, Long jump, High jump, Table Tennis, Chess, Carom board, and Taekwondo. Under the cultural program, eight competitions including essays, singing, poetry recitation, and posters will also be held.
